Regarded as the "most celebrated and extensively cultivated cider apple in England." Also considered a good eating apple. Pale yellowish white color. Its price in England is noted by Thatcher as being "fourfold of that of common sale cider." It does well in sandy ground. Compared with common apples, this variety requires one third more in quantity to produce a barrel of cider.
