PROJECT STATEMENT
Our project highlights the importance of seed saving; without seeds, there would be no food to sustain the population. Our visual representation consists of a collage highlighting the specific seeds we chose to be the focal point for our project. The collage displays food in two conditions, living in sunlight and being stored in a setting with artificial light. Together these two elements have helped produce the building we use today to store seeds. Using media such as collages, infographics, and written research, we have created a project that engages viewers with the importance of seed saving, the process of acquiring and storing seeds for viable crops for future use in food, medicine, and beyond.
Through the lenses of scientific reports that examine the preservation process of seed-saving and the social impacts of the seed archive, we engage viewers with the importance of keeping seeds alive. Meanwhile, we also look into Sacrificial Logic, which is how humans decide what species is “worth saving” or “less important” to be preserved. Our project asks viewers to examine their reliance on plants for food—and to face the reality of what life would be like without them.
